Rodney Yee: Master Teacher
Teacher Bio
Rodney Yee took his first yoga class in 1980 while dancing with the Oakland Ballet Company and studying philosophy and physical therapy at UC Berkeley. Following his deep curiosity about the intersection of mind, body and breath, Rodney began to study yoga full time in 1981 at the San Francisco Iyengar Yoga Institute and The Yoga Room in Berkeley.
Rodney is a teacher’s teacher, having trained several generations of yogis around the world. He leads a rigorous schedule of teacher trainings, workshops, conferences, and retreats throughout the US and internationally, and maintains a public teaching schedule at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, NY and New York City.
Over the last 25 years, Rodney has been featured in over 35 yoga DVDs. Rodney and his wife Colleen Saidman Yee co-developed the online Gaia Yoga Foundations program, designed to make a home practice accessible to a wide audience. He has also authored two classic books, Yoga: The Poetry of the Body and Moving Toward Balance.
Rodney has appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America, the PBS special "The Practical Power of Yoga,” and many other television broadcasts. In print, he has been featured in Yoga Journal, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Self, Glamour, Marie Claire, Elle, O-The Oprah Magazine, New York Magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.
